What is a Postcode?
- A postcode is an identifier with several numeric or alphanumeric characters
- Its is the primary piece of information identifiying the locality of the addressee of mail item.
- Each Delivery Office has its own postcode.
- It is unique, Universal Identifier.
Benefits of Postcode System
- To facilitate the sorting and transmission of letters and parcels.
- To prove mail delivery.
- It is very useful tool for various economic and social players;
- A correct identified address means mail is sorted and delivered easily and quickly, giving everyone a sense of satisfaction and confidence in mail exchanges.
- Reduce the number of returned or undeliverable items.
- Promotes organizational modernization, allowing automated processing at the post office or by database managers.
GENERAL RULES FOR ADDRESS
A. The recipient address block:
- Must have a print quality and contrast sufficient for reading by humans.
- Must not be skewed more than 15 degree.
- There must be no advertising messages or other information not belonging to the recipient address.
- Must not be covered by stamps or post-marks.
- Must not be crossed out (e.g for cancellation) or must not be "return to sender" address block.
B. The elements of the recipient address block:
- Have to be written on the mailpiece according to the Postal Guideline of Brunei Darussalam for domestic mail. This means especially the sequence of the address elements of each line and the sequence o the lines.
- For foreign mail have to be written on the mailpiece according to international standards, what means the especially:
a. The full country name has to be placed as a single item in the bottom line or;
b. The valid abbreviation has to be placed before the postal code separated by a "-".
- Have to be complete (Postal Code: District, Mukim, City, etc.)
- Must not be incomplete or (partly) hidden behind the window.
- Have to be consistent (e.g Postal Code and city have to match)
C. The characters of the elements of the recipient address block:
- Have to be unambiguous. Each character has to be readable as a separated item by humans.
D . The Window Material:
- Must not be wrinkled.
ADDITIONAL RULES FOR HANDWRITTEN POSTAL CODE:
A. The Postal Code:
- Must be written completely by hand.
- Must not be a foreign address destination.
B. Numbers (Postal codes, P.O Box No)
- Strokes must not be broken up.
- Size must not be too small.
- Must consist out of isolated numerical characters.
