New Post Office in Bunut Offers Improved Services
12/06/2003 - Officers and staff of the Post Office Department are urged to always observe the needs of customers by providing high quality service and earning their trust or ‘Tekad Pemedulian Orang Ramai’. The Minister of Communications made the remarks when he officiated the opening of Kampung Bunut’s new post office Wednesday.

Pehin Dato Seri Setia Haji Zakaria said that officers and staff should always make the quality of service to the public a priority. They are also urged to be more innovative and open-minded so that the Post Office Services can achieve its mission and vision.

The function was followed by the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement for the lease of rooms for Automated Teller Machine’s (ATM’s) at the new Bunut Post Office. The agreement was signed between the Post Master General, Pengiran Haji Mohd. Yaakub representing His Majesty’s government and representatives from the Islamic Bank of Brunei, Islamic Development Bank and Baiduri Bank. This is the second post office that has ATM facilities. The Menglait Post Office in Gadong was the first to be provided with ATM facilities.

Construction of the Kampung Bunut Post Office started in October 2001 and was completed in October last year. It provides a number of facilities that include various counter services, ATM’s, a post office shop as well as public phone and Internet services.

Postal services are still required by the community, despite facing stiff competition from improved communication technology. Although the Internet and other communication technologies are providing more convenient ways of communicating between one another, there are still customers who are keen to communicate by mail. He noted that at the end of every month, there is a surge in the volume of mail such as brochures, bills and credit cards, which are sent by banks through the Postal Services Department.
