New post office under construction in Lumut
12/11/2002 - The Postal Services Department is striving hard to provide comprehensive service by extending it to the rural areas for the convenience of the community.

Through such an endeavor, the department aims to make its vision of transforming post offices into a business and information centre a reality. The move also underlines its effort to be more progressive and competitive.

In this regard, a new post office building is under construction in Kampung Lumut in the Belait District. The foundation laying ceremony was held Tuesday, led by the Post Master General, Pengiran Haji Mohd. Yaakub.

The two-storey building is built at a cost of 700 thousand dollars. When the structure is ready within nine months, it will provide basic postal facilities as well as an automatic teller machine.

Meanwhile, the Postal Services Department said in a media release that Brunei Darussalam will play host to the Commonwealth Post Office Meeting to be held sometime in August next year. Some 35 countries are expected to attend.
