Chief Executives and representatives of the private sector, heads of departments and senior government officers, ladies and gentlemen

Assalamualaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh, salam sejahtera, a very good afternoon.

  1. It gives me great pleasure to welcome you all to this KIICA Roadshow and Convergence Forum this afternoon. I wish to first of all extent a very warm welcome to Her Excellency Dr. Lee, Kyung-Ja, Standing Commissioner of KCC, Republic of Korea and I thank Her Excellency for her kind congratulatory remarks. I hope your first time visit here will be a pleasant and memorable time.
  2. My special thanks go to the organizers of this forum for inviting me as Guest of Honour to this Roadshow and subsequently the convergence forum – its certainly a great privilege and I am graciously honoured. Thank you so much for the kind gesture.
  3. Today’s roadshow and forum organized by KIICA and hosted by KCC, Republic of Korea marks a follow-up milestone to the already existing close relationship between Brunei Darussalam and the Republic of Korea. About a couple of years ago in September 2006 saw the MoU signing between the Ministry of Communications of Brunei Darussalam and the Ministry of Information and Communications of the Republic of Korea then.
  4. The underlying principle of that signing was to promote closer cooperation and exchange of information relating to ICT in accordance to our relevant laws and regulations of respective countries on the basis of equality, reciprocity and mutual benefit.
  5. I’d like to draw your attention to one of the cooperation activities that I feel are quite relevant to today’s forum – at both the government to government (or G2G) and business to business (B2B) perspectives – firstly, we have the exchange of information on policies and technologies in establishing the Information superhighway. Secondly the MoU provision to jointly hold iCT fora, seminars and symposia, among others. This is what we see this afternoon – a Convergence Forum jointly organised by KIICA of Korea and IFB.
  6. We very much look forward to this mutually beneficial partnership for both Brunei Darussalam and the Republic of Korea. And today I hope to see this forum to particularly benefit our local ICT and media industry SMEs in terms of being able to learn and tap the experiences and new technologies that Korea has to share and offer. New developments and in wireless technology as well as network security solutions and applications are among many other significant areas of interest that the forum can explore and deliberate to benefit participants here today. I also hope this forum will serve as a platform for strengthening and opening up networking opportunities between our local industry in Brunei particularly the SMEs and the Korean ICT industry players.

    Your Excellencies, ladies and gentlemen,

  7. On behalf of the Ministry of Communications, I now wish to take the opportunity to put on record our highest appreciation to all those who have cooperated in putting together their time, energy and great efforts to make this forum happen today.
  8. With that, once again my warm welcome to HE Dr. Lee, Kyung-Ja, Standing Commissioner of the Korean Communications Commission (KCC), Republic of Korea and the rest of the Korean delegation.
  9. Lastly, I wish this forum a great success and hope for a great and lively discussion amongst the participants!

Thank you. Wabillahi taufik walhidayah wassalamualaikum warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh.
